Photography - Farms and Barns

Updated: Feb 19

Old farm houses and barns reserve a special place in my heart. The solitude and will to survive long before modern amenities is inspiring.

I have visited the farmhouse below many times over the years, as it is one of my favorites. It is east of Colorado Springs on the Great Plains of Colorado.

The old mechanical windmills once used for watering holes are near extinction. They are often replaced by solar powered water pumps. Both work in those hard to reach areas where electricity isn't readily available.

A good fence is the staple of of good farm. They can span for miles, across the countryside, over hills and into the next county. Some are composed of well-made materials, while others are just well-made.

Wheat and corn are two of the more popular crops grown on farmland. But a few farms in Colorado grown sunflowers. The fields stretch into the horizon as far as the eye can see.
